Today, information about the university's programmes and courses is spread across many different websites at university, faculty and department level. To make it easier for the prospective student to get an idea of the programmes and courses on offer and to find comparable information, all this content will now be gathered on the university-wide websites lu.se and lunduniversity.lu.se. The aim is the right student on the right course (or programme).
The project also means that the work processes for educational communication are being reviewed and restructured. New roles will be introduced, and communications officers will be given greater responsibility for processing and quality reviewing all programme information before publication on the web. Each programme will also have an expert responsible for the factual content.
The new education website will be launched in September and before then all programme and course descriptions will be reworked, adapted to target groups and the criteria for “plain language” (“klarspråk” in Swedish). For the Faculty of Social Sciences, this means more than 40 programmes and 350 courses.
Emma Holm, communications officer at the Faculty Office, will be the faculty's coordinating editor during the implementation phase:
Is this a job that only concerns the faculty's communications officers?
"No, not at all! Course coordinators, directors of studies and study advisers will be key figures in this work this spring. They are the experts on the faculty's courses and programmes and have a very important role of providing factual content to the communications officers and reviewing texts by the deadline. The directors of studies need to give a mandate to the communications officers in the process, and study advisers naturally hold important knowledge about what information the students want."
How will the faculty’s work proceed?
"All the faculty's communications officers are currently participating in training sessions to learn the new technical system and understand the desired format and tone for the new content. The communications officers will shortly be contacting experts in their respective departments to begin reworking our course descriptions, to enhance their quality and make them more personalised. Our top priority is to finalise all courses and programmes that will open for applications this autumn.
Why is this an important project?
"Quite simply, we need to improve the service for prospective students. Give them the guidance they deserve when choosing and deciding to apply for a course or programme at Lund University. The programme presentations should not only be clear and equal in relation to each other but also welcoming. They should help prospective students feel that they want to apply to Lund University regardless of their background, age or life situation. And the new presentations should better reflect the attractiveness of Lund University."
