The renovation of Gamla lungkliniken (building G)

Now it is time for a renovation of Gamla lungkliniken. The building will be closed 1 July 2023 – 31 March 2024, and meanwhile the Department of Sociology will move temporarily to Allhelgonaskolan.

New ventilation and more workplaces

Gamla lungkliniken will undergo the necessary changes to accommodate additional workplaces. Among others, the ventilation system will be changed, individual work rooms will be refurbished and windows will be renovated. The building will also get a slightly remodeled entrance facing north. The faculty is also taking the opportunity to complete the eastern side of floor 4, which was not refurbished in the same way as the rest of the building during the 2006 renovation.

Timescale and evacuation

According to the current schedule the renovation will take approximately one year, from 1 July 2023 to 31 May 2024. The departments will move back in the summer of 2024.

During the renovation, the Department of Sociology will move to temporary premises in Allhelgonaskolan, Bredgatan 26.

The building will be blocked off with a construction fence during the renovation. The footpath towards Paradisgatan will be open, as usual.

After the renovation, the Department of Sociology will move back to the Building, together with the Department of Gender Studies.

The process leading up to the renovation

In 2020, preliminary study sketches were circulated and in 2021, programme documents were circulated internally within the faculty to the Campus Paradis project steering group, the Department of Gender Studies and the Department of Sociology.

In 2022, the project planning is in a combined system and construction documentation phase. In parallel with the system and construction planning, plans for the interior are also underway.

The project team is in continuous dialogue with working groups at the Department of Sociology and the Department of Gender Studies.
