Reducing risks in IT and information security is a priority for Lund University. All operational managers have therefore been urged by the university management to implement a number of IT security-enhancing measures within their departments. To carry out this work in the best possible way, a common IT organisation is now being introduced.
– The primary reason for introducing a coordinated IT organisation at the faculty is to improve IT and information security, says Lina Wedin, Head of Faculty Office. We also see coordination benefits and opportunities to clarify roles and tasks. There will also be improved support for the heads of department in their responsibility for these issues.
To ensure that the faculty can handle the IT needs, an IT technician with the following tasks has been appointed:
- Network manager
- Network administrator
- Firewall Administrator
Lars Kindberg, who also works at the Department of Psychology, has been given the assignment and is responsible, among other things, for developing a network plan for the entire faculty that complies with the requirements for IT security. Initially, Lars will spend a lot of working time clearing existing networks and moving equipment to new networks. During the autumn, he will work 50% on this, after which the scope of the assignment will be reduced to 30% in 2025.
Lars will also be the faculty's representative in the university-wide network SamIT.
Only EGA computers may be used
The Faculty Board has also decided that only computers that are managed within the University's so-called EGA service may be used. Other solutions can pose a risk and require that the person who will use the computer has sufficient skills to maintain an appropriate level of IT security on the equipment themselves. If exceptions need to be made, it must be approved by the responsible manager, and the network manager must be informed.
Printing through the Papercut service
Another change is that smaller printers located in the office are no longer allowed. These create more administration and higher printing costs. Instead, all printouts will be made on so-called multifunction printers (copiers/printers/scanners) that are connected to the Print.lu.se/Papercut service.
