Becoming a ‘docent’ – a joint course for the Faculty of Social Sciences and LUSEM

The Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) offer a course for those who are planning to apply for docent (associate professor/reader) in the near future.

The course is seminar-based and designed to be inspirational, but also to provide useful knowledge about the research process and academia in general. Participants are also provided with an intensive version of the compulsory course in research supervision (this part can be omitted if you have already taken that course).

Docent (associate professor/reader) is a step of one’s academic career – an important, yet largely unformalized role at Swedish universities. This course offers useful information for potential docents at LUSEM and the Faculty of Social Sciences. It provides information regarding the application process and evaluation criteria at respective faculty. It also covers critical issues such as how to succeed with PhD supervision, grant applications, and the publication process. The course also provides important information regarding academia in general.

The format is interactive where invited presenters introduce a topic which is discussed within the group. The course also gives participants pedagogical credits for PhD supervision if they follow the module on research supervision. The target group is PhDs who aim to apply for docent within the coming year(s).

Course period: February–March 2024

Schedule: Will be available in December

Course coordinators:  Maria Stanfors (LUSEM) and Mikael Johansson (Faculty of Social Sciences).

Application: Apply by sending an e-mail to Charlina Lunvald (charlina [dot] lunvald [at] fek [dot] lu [dot] se) by 30 November. In your application, please indicate if you intend to participate in the research supervision seminars or not.
