Two years ago, the Lund Building Committee adopted a new detailed plan for the zone Paradis 51, where most of the Faculty of Social Sciences's campus is located. The plan is a prerequisite for constructing a new house, Cesam, on the car park facing Allhelgona kyrkogata. The building would connect the backsides of the Gamla polikliniken (Hus M) and Barnbördshuset (Hus O) and function as a social science centre with study spaces, modern teaching facilities and the faculty library.
But the plan was appealed by "Aktionsgrupper för samhällsbyggnad i Lunds kommun" (Action Groups for Community Development in Lund Municipality), first to the Land and Environment Court (Mark- och miljödomstolen) and then to the highest court. On September 5 this year, the Land and Environment Court of Appeal (Mark- och miljööversomstolen) announced that it would not hear the appeal.
– Now that the detailed plan is legally binding, Akademiska hus and Lund University will initiate a dialogue on the continued planning of Cesam and the renovation of the Gamla polikliniken and Gamla barnbördshuset, says Robert Holmberg, project manager for campus development at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The Cesam project was on hold while the courts considered the appeal. The development of the faculty campus continued with other projects, including the renovation of the Gamla kirurgen (Hus R).
When the planning of Cesam resumes, Akademiska Hus and Lund University will conduct a new analysis of the faculty's needs in an updated plan for its activities and premises.
– The Cesam project is intended to meet several needs that the Faculty of Social Sciences has, says Robert Holmberg. It is now relevant to see what those needs are today and how they can best be utilised within the project.
