Unprecedented interest in international recruitment

The Faculty of Social Sciences welcomes new visiting and assistant professors.

Lund University is hiring 45 new assistant professors and visiting professors this spring. The initiative, which involves just over SEK 30 million in university-wide funding, represents a significant boost to operations – not least at the Faculty of Social Sciences, which is welcoming nine of the new recruits.

The number of applications for Lund University’s international recruitment drive was higher – and of even higher quality – than expected. The 25 advertised positions were therefore increased to 45. Researchers from some of the world’s leading universities are now on their way to Lund.

“It’s interesting to look more closely at what has attracted the researchers. Besides the University’s good reputation, many regard Lund and Sweden as a model example of a well-functioning democracy with strong academic freedom and an open and equal society,” says Vice Chancellor Erik Renström.

A total of nine researchers, seven visiting professors, and two assistant professors will join the Faculty of Social Sciences. They come from Harvard, Humboldt, and ETH Zurich, among others.

“We are delighted to welcome our new assistant professors and visiting professors and foresee multiple opportunities for their research excellence to enrich the breadth of research environments found at the Faculty”, says Agnes Andersson, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
