Submit purchase requests to the library

Linnéa Jeschke and Linda Leveau purchase all literature for Sambib in Lund, while Filip Astner is responsible for subject areas in Helsingborg. Two other colleagues are responsible for e-resources and journals.

The book and journal collections at the Social Sciences Faculty Library are updated regularly and you can influence what is purchased. We have met the librarians Linda, Linnéa and Filip who explained how the purchasing process works.

How do you keep the library's collections current and relevant?

We have a user-oriented purchasing policy and welcome suggestions for books, journals and databases from both staff and students. Suggestions may include printed books, e-books and planned future course literature. All approved course literature used at the faculty is always purchased.

We actively monitor publications within the faculty's subject areas and make our own selection. Our ambition is to offer literature that is relevant for research and independent student projects. Half of what we purchase each year comes from purchase suggestions, and we would like even more people to get in touch and recommend books!

As well as purchasing new books, we also continuously weed out old ones to make room in our premises. Discarded books are sold for a symbolic fee. Unique and rare material that is rarely borrowed is transferred to the University Library Depot at Arkivcentrum Syd for preservation, but can still be ordered.

How do I suggest purchases?

You use the form available on our website:

Web form: Submit a purchasing suggestion

Can I choose in which format the book is purchased - printed book or e-book?

You can specify your preferred format on the form, but it is not always possible to fulfil your request. Some titles, for example, are not available as e-books or are only sold with unfavourable terms of use. Sometimes they are not sold to libraries at all. E-book versions may also be priced unreasonably, as e-books are generally more expensive than printed books.

We cannot purchase Swedish titles as e-books because university libraries do not have agreements with the relevant publishers. Even if they are sold to private individuals, the library cannot provide them.

How long will it take before you have the literature I suggested?

It's hard to say, as it depends on availability and the supplier, but it usually takes two working weeks for printed books. E-books can take between one day and up to a week.

Can I see new titles you have received?

Yes, newly purchased titles are displayed in our premises Sambib and the library in Helsingborg. You can also search for printed acquisitions monthly using the code Lsam2025xx (Sambib) or Lhel2025xx (Hbg) in Libris where xx stands for month. For example, to find Sambib's new titles during the month of May, you type Lsam202505.
