Debatt i Lund: Is this Europe's twilight?
For decades, Europe has seen itself as something more than armies and markets – a force of ideas. A normative power. A model of democracy and the most desirable way of life.
But in today’s world, autocracy is rising. Only seven percent of the world’s population lives in a liberal democracy. Increasingly, people seem to prefer strong leaders over elections.
So what role is left for Europe – and is anyone still listening?
At Debatt i Lund, four leading voices ask whether Europe’s values still matter – or if the world has already moved on.
Martin Gelin – Author and journalist, writing for Dagens Nyheter and The Guardian.
Maria Georgieva – Longtime Russia correspondent and investigative reporter, whose work has appeared in Svenska Dagbladet, The Guardian, and others.
Ian Manners – Professor in political science and expert on the normative power of the European Union
Tabita Rosendal - Lecturer at Lund University, with expertise on Chinese International Relations, China's global ambitions, and foreign policy strategies like the Belt and Road Initiative.
