Innovations

Social and behavioural science research contributes to a better understanding of society and sometimes also results in social innovations - that is, new ways of solving different problems in society. Social innovations can be methods, approaches, services or processes that help address social needs and problems.

AI assisted diagnosis tool for mental health

A research team has developed an AI assisted diagnostic tool. When using the tool, a patient can chat with an AI bot about their mental health. The dialogue is done in natural language until there is enough information to make a proposed diagnosis.

Clinicians then log in to the tool and receive suggested diagnoses, as well as a list of whether the patient fulfils the DSM-5 criteria for the diagnoses, the likelihood of this and a verbal justification why the criteria are met. The decision aid aims to increase the reliability of mental health diagnoses. Correct and early diagnoses can reduce suffering and save large amounts of money in the healthcare system.

Legal literacy for the right to have rights

Researchers at the Faculty of Social Sciences are working on a model to inform and advise on rights in labour, migration and social law and the interaction between these areas of law. The model is aimed at organisations providing legal advice and at people in need of information about their rights. The innovation should be able to counter exclusion and promote social sustainability.

Memory planning methods

Memory planning methods are about how people's memories and stories can be collected and used to develop places. A method is created, a digital toolbox, on how to transform people's memories to take place in new houses, road networks and street names.

The method has been used in the development of Helsingborg's new growing district Oceanhamnen, which opened in April 2023, as well as in the development of Jakobsberg city centre in Järfälla and in Helsingborg's new master plan from 2021.

Making public spaces inclusive

Equalizer is a project that aims to develop ways to make existing outdoor sport and recreational spaces more inclusive so that more groups of people feel comfortable using them. The solutions should be small and easy to implement without costing too much.

Some examples of solutions to make outdoor sport and recreational spaces more inclusive are:

  • placing signs informing people that the space is for everyone.
  • an example of a solution on a basketball court; basketball hoops can be placed on the outside of the court so that those who do not want to participate in the ongoing game on the court still have the opportunity to exercise.
