Research
Understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition
Most of the challenges of our time have been created by humans. To solve them, we need knowledge of both human behaviour and social and political institutions. Social science researchers strive to make sense of the world, create opportunities for change, and, ideally, prevent problems from arising in the first place.

Governance and politics
Leadership and governance is a large and broad research field at the Faculty of Social Sciences. This includes everything from political regimes to governance and leadership in public, private and non-profit organisations.

Welfare and well-being
What does a welfare society look like, and what is needed for us to feel good? At the Faculty of Social Sciences, we study what affects people's well-being - from cradle to grave.

The digital society
How does digitalisation affect the individual and the world? In the long-term and short-term? And what are the consequences for those who are excluded from digital development?

Sustainable societies
Major problems are related to how we build our societies, how we allocate our resources, how we consume and how we travel. But what does an ecologically and socially sustainable world look like? These are questions that engage many social scientists.

Social and economic change
To understand the world around us, we need to understand what causes social and economic development. What drives and what hinders economic growth, climate change, gender equality and peaceful societies?

Work-life and organisation
The Faculty of Social Sciences conducts research on the role of managers, the organisation of workplaces and the importance of good communication for both management and employees.
Department and centres
Research at the Faculty of Social Sciences is concentrated at the Faculty’s departments and centres. On their websites you can read more about the Faculty's research.
