Journalism and trustworthy news are essential to democratic societies, especially in a time shaped by disinformation, polarisation, climate change, political unrest, war, and rapid advances in artificial intelligence. As journalism faces multiple and overlapping challenges – urgent questions emerge about its future role, responsibilities, and possibilities.

Join us to explore how journalism can adapt and thrive amid today’s complex challenges.

We welcome you to join us for an exploratory symposium and workshop dedicated to examining how journalism can adapt, respond, and thrive in turbulent times. The event provides space for critical reflection, exchange of ideas, and solution-oriented dialogue.

The event takes place at Media Evolution in Malmö, a vibrant innovation hub that brings together media, technology, and creative industries to explore new ideas and collaborations. It is also home to the Lund University School of Journalism where future journalists are trained.

Hosted by the Lund University School of Journalism (Journalistutbildningen) at the Department of Communication (IKO) in collaboration with the Hamrin Foundation, the conference creates a space where scholars, professionals from related industries, journalists, educators, and students come together to shape the future of journalism.

The symposium is moderated by Rafaela Stålbalk Klose. Confirmed keynote speakers include Annette Novak, Honorary Doctor, at Umeå University and senior media advisor and journalist, and Natalie Fenton, Professor of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London.
