SESAC - Centre for Satellite Data in Social Research

SESAC (Swedish Competence Centre for Satellite Enabled Social Science Analytics) is a national competence centre which, with support from the Swedish National Space Agency, makes satellite data available to social science researchers.

Why satellite data?

Every day, huge amounts of images are collected from the Earth's surface. When analysed using the right methods, they become powerful tools for research in areas such as sustainability, public health, population growth and crisis preparedness. With the help of researchers' expertise, satellite data can provide new knowledge on everything from deforestation and urbanisation to the effects of climate change.

Expertise from different research fields

SESAC helps social scientists to make use of space-based information. It has expertise in GIS, remote sensing, regional development, sustainability and security. Together with authorities, companies and civil society, the centre develops new ways of using satellite and space data to strengthen research, policy and innovation.
