Applying for readership and professorship

Applying for a readership

Appointment as reader (associate professor) means that you have the right to teach and examine at all levels within the university, but the title is not associated with any employment.

The Academic Appointments Board processes applications for readership once per semester, in April and in October. The application deadline for spring 2024 is 15 April.

An application for readership requires support from a department. The department is to write a briefstatement (certificate) justifying how the appointment to reader would benefit research and education at the department.  The applicant must also demonstrate documented research expertise and the teaching qualifications required in the subject of the readership.

Please follow these guidelines on how to apply:

Promotion to professor

A permanently employed senior lecturer may be promoted to professor if there is an operational need and if the person has the qualifications for employment as a professor. A request to be promoted to professor can only be made by the head of department or equivalent. It is not possible for an individual employee to apply.

Applications should be sent to recruitment officer Anders Kirchner, anders [dot] kirchner [at] sam [dot] lu [dot] se, and must be received no later than 15 February

In order for a request for promotion to be considered, it must be prepared by the department at which the senior lecturer is employed. The request must be based on a well-identified need and must include a description of the strategic considerations of the department. The consideration shall include an assessment of the candidate's documented contribution to the development of the business and a justification for why the candidate was deemed suitable for promotion. A financial report for the long-term financing of the professorship must also be attached, as well as a gender equality analysis.

The application must also include an application from the candidate in question. The application must be designed in accordance with the guidelines below:
