To explore and integrate differences in the classroom dialogue
This workshop aims to explore the potentials of dialogue and the capacity to integrate differences in the classroom.
The workshop has two parts:
- The first is a presentation primarily based on a concept provided by the non-profit organization Open Mind. It is a scalable, evidence-based approach to constructive dialogue with a main goal to provide learning tools and equip people with the mindset and skillset to communicate constructively across differences. The presentation is based on Jonathan Haidt’s work in social psychology.
- The second part is interactive with focus on sharing experiences, learning from each other, and exploring how Open Mind might be helpful to further expand our abilities to integrate differences through dialogue.
The workshop is led by Johan Bertlett and Robert Holmberg (both Department of Psychology).

Pedagogic development seminar series
This workshop is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences’ seminar series on “Expanding capacity to explore, share and communicate differences in the classroom”.
How can we understand conflicts in teaching and learning situations? How can we work with them in a constructive and generative way? These are central questions to all teaching in higher education, that have received growing attention. Therefore, the faculty, through a group of teachers from different departments, have created this seminar series to offer spaces for discussion and for practical explorations of difficult classroom situations.
