From 14 to 16 April, deans, heads of faculty administration and education leaders from social science faculties across Sweden gathered in Lund for this year’s national deans’ conference. The focus was on education and research in a time of change, with joint discussions on resources, coordination and strategic choices shaping the future of the social sciences.

Education and research in a changing context

From 14 to 16 April, the Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University hosted the national conference for deans and heads of faculty administration from social science faculties in Sweden. Discussions centred on the future of the social sciences, with particular emphasis on education and research in a context marked by economic and structural challenges. The programme brought together representatives from universities across the country for dialogue on shared issues affecting both education and research.

Discussions on educational provision, resources and collaboration

The programme included discussions, among other things, on reviewing educational offerings and models for resource allocation. The final day focused on the conditions for research, with a panel discussion addressing challenges, opportunities and possible ways forward for social science research.

Exchange of experience between universities

The conference serve as a national meeting place for exchange of experience and strategic dialogue among social science faculties.

Lina Wedin, Head of Faculty Office, summarises the significance of the days

It is valuable to come together to discuss challenges within both academia and the professional support services. The first part of the conference focused on administrative and support functions, which play a key role in enabling the exchange of shared challenges and lessons learned. In many respects, we face similar situations, which allows us not only to share best practices, but also to come together around issues of common importance.
