Becoming a 'docent' - a joint course for the Faculty of Social Sciences and LUSEM

The Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) are offering a course for those of you who are planning to apply for docent (associate professor/reader). The course is built as a seminar series and includes training in doctoral supervision.

Docent (associate professor/reader) is a step of one’s academic career - an important, yet largely unformalized role at Swedish universities. This course offers useful information for potential docents at the Faculty of Social Sciences and LUSEM. It provides information regarding the application process and evaluation criteria at respective faculty. It also covers critical issues such as how to succeed with PhD supervision, grant applications, and the publication process.

The format is interactive where invited presenters introduce a topic which is then discussed within the group. The course also gives pedagogical credits for PhD supervision. The target group is PhDs who aim to apply for docent within the coming years.

Course period: 16 November 2021 to 17 February 2022 (in total 8 meetings)

Schedule: PDF (80 kB), new tab

Course coordinators:  Maria Stanfors (LUSEM) and Mikael Johansson (Faculty of Social sciences).

Application: Apply by sending an e-mail to Faculty Coordinator Helen Wiman (helen [dot] wiman [at] sam [dot] lu [dot] se) not later than 31 October.
