About ISSS

Lund University, ISSS
The fundamental issues
of our time are social. Environmental problems, armed conflicts, financial crises, social injustices and poverty all have their roots in social and political problems that have to be solved. The Master’s programmes at the International School of Social Science (ISSS) are taught by committed teachers who conduct research in these and other areas.

Research and education at ISSS are characterised by the seeking of knowledge and a critical analytical attitude towards societal phenomena. Studying for a Master’s degree at ISSS will give you insights that uncover the perceptions and assumptions that govern our thinking and the development of society. You will acquire methods and tools that make implementation and change possible.

The International School of Social Science offers a wide variety of Master’s programmes that are either interdisciplinary, thematic programmes or programmes in certain disciplines. The variety of programmes and courses makes it possible for most students to find something to suit their interests. You can obtain a Master’s degree in a traditional discipline such as Political Science or Sociology, or in a thematic field such as Development Studies or Global Studies. The degree you are awarded depends on the courses you take and within which discipline you write your Master’s thesis. All Master’s programmes at ISSS give you eligibility for PhD studies. ISSS also offers a Bachelor’s degree programme in Development Studies.

You will have the opportunity to study part of your programme at one of Lund’s partner universities around the world, within a student exchange programme. Some programmes also give the possibility to enrol in joint programmes with international partner universities and acquire a joint degree.

ISSS is located in the medieval city centre of Lund. You will encounter a vibrant student atmosphere, an active students’ union and a helpful Students’ Office.
